St Augustine’s Catholic Primary School serves the local community of Leam Lane, Gateshead. They are hoping to make their Nursery space available to the community during the school holidays.
You can find out more about St Augustine’s on their excellent website.
Carolyn Duffy is the Head Teacher at St Augustine’s. She writes:
“Many children in the Leam Lane area come from disadvantaged homes with high levels of unemployment and increasing levels of mental health among both adults and children. The Nursery serves as a safe and secure environment to begin learning and there are 52 3- and 4-year-old children accessing it weekly during term time.
“We aim to increase the provision and access for the local community so that parents and carers can use the nursery and outdoor areas during school holidays offering an additional 13 weeks in a safe secure and positive learning environment for 3 and 4 year olds. This will benefit both the children and their parents/carers.
“The Nursery is desperately in need of refurbishment and we have managed to accrue £70k towards the cost. This does not cover what is required and if we were lucky enough to win the cost of a replacement ceiling it would help us achieve our goal enormously.”
